Having worked with many Museums and Historical sites in the past, this was something we were most definitely interested in. The subject Aidan was researching was a Four Poster Bed, which he believed to be around 500 years old. After a visit to the site first to check if there were any lighting restrictions etc, we arranged a date. To determine the beds age Aidan also commissioned a company based in London to have the bed Carbon14 dated at the same time as the photography, a process which I found extremely interesting, watch this space to see the results later this year........

​Radiocarbon dating (also referred to as carbon dating or carbon-14 dating) is a method for determining the age of an object containing organic material by using the properties of radiocarbon, a radioactive isotope of carbon.

As you can see from the images bellow, probably not as comfortable as a Hypnos or Simba mattress , but obviously worked.

Having completed a Flugel G66 Classic for a client based in London, the piano was carefully packed and loaded by Butlersmith and brought over for studio photography before a Christmas delivery deadline, giving us a day to capture the beauty and ellegance of the gold and black gloss boudoir grand.
Glossy products are one the hardest finishes to capture, and this was no exception, being jet black.

It was quite evident as soon as it was positioned on the infinty curve that most surfaces of the piano were reflecting everything around the studio, but with carful lighting, black flags and polorised lights and filter, we came up with the shots required, after a long day.

The Topaz name refers a new Bible setting. It is traditional for Cambridge to name their Bible settings after precious stones, and the Topaz jewel has been used in the branding of this Bible. The Topaz design has been influenced by traditional KJV settings, and will be applied to a range of Bible translations, thereby creating a new ‘family’ of Cambridge Bibles. This new family will join Cambridge’s existing Clarion, Pitt Minion and Wide-Margin families.
The Topaz distinguishes itself by being a larger format, two-column reference Bible. It uses a verse by verse arrangement of the text, and the verse and chapter numbers are picked out in red for the purposes of navigation.
 
Cambridge wanted us to capture the overall look of the Topaz, in particular key features such as the quality of the leather, the art-gilt edges, the flexibility of the binding, and the high quality satin ribbons. As Cambridge Bibles stand for quality, craftsmanship, tradition and beauty, these are the values we needed to encapsulate in the photographs. The autumnal theme comes from the time of year the Topaz will be released.
 
Based on this brief, we came up with the below images. We show the scale of the Bible and its large format by using a vicar from a local parish, the time of release by using an autumn scene, and the quality of product by emphasising its key features. Cambridge was very pleased with the result.

Two of the main events took place last week,the first being a Sporting Dinner, with guest speaker Steve Rider, who entertained over 130 guests, with stories from his days as a Presenter in top class sport.
The second was the Centenary Ball, with over 300 guests dancing to the sounds of Jumbo and the Jets, fireworks and superb lighting supplied by 3D Productions. Both events took place in the magnificent marquee put up on the practice area by Cambridge Marquees

Saffron Walden Golf Club – A Proud History.

How it all started   In the year following the end of World War I, a small group of local people started the process of forming a golf club. After making successful overtures to the 7th Baron Braybrooke about using some of the Audley End Estate’s Deer Park to construct a course, fifteen founder members gathered in the Saffron Walden Town Hall Committee Room on 10th September 1919 to hold the inaugural meeting of “The Saffron Walden Golf Club”. The Audley End Deer Park was designed by and developed by Lancelot “Capability” Brown between 1763 and 1767 and we are fortunate to retain a significant number of his original plantings of oaks, limes and cedars, to this day.
The first course design here was of nine holes measuring 2210 yds. with no bunkers and no tee boxes. Today, you will be playing on one of East Anglia’s premier parkland courses measuring almost three times the length at 6608 yds. with some fifty five bunkers and thirty three tee boxes.
Famous Golfers to have played here  Whilst playing the course today, you can reflect that you will, at certain times, be treading the same fairways and putting out on the same greens as some of the world’s famous golfers.
Harry Vardon - Henry William "Harry" Vardon (9 May 1870 – 20 March 1937) was a professional golfer from the Bailiwick of Jersey. He was a member of the fabled Great Triumvirate of the sport in his day, along with John Henry Taylor and James Braid. Vardon won The Open Championship a record six times and also won the 1900 U.S. Open. He is the originator of the overlapping “Vardon” grip. Harry Vardon was retained to assist with the redesign of the 9 hole Saffron Walden golf course in late 1929 and then played an invitation match in early summer 1930 to launch the new layout.
Horton Smith - Horton Smith was known in his time as a great putter, and is remembered today as the winner of the first Masters Tournament in 1934. He won the Masters again in 1936, was a member of the Ryder Cup team, 1929, 1931, 1933, 1935, 1937.  Horton Smith was the last golfer to defeat Bobby Jones in match play before Jones' retirement in 1930. During and after WWII, there were many United States Air Force (USAF) bases in the locality and a number of American personnel frequented Saffron Walden GC. Shortly after the end of the war, the club was approached by some of the USAAF top brass, who asked if they could stage an exhibition match for their men, between some top American professionals still serving in the military. Their request was duly granted and Horton Smith was one of those who played in the match.
Peter Alliss - Undoubtedly best known for his famous, if not infamous, golf punditry, in his commentaries for the BBC and other international TV companies. Peter Alliss, Peter Oosterhuis, Dave Thomas and Harry Weetman played in the 1969 Exhibition Match to celebrate the Saffron Walden Golf Club’s 50th anniversary.
In the mid 1990’s, the club held a number of Pro-Am’s, that attracted professional golfers then playing on the international circuit -  Roger Davis, Ronan Raffery, Peter Mitchell, Peter Baker, Gillian Stewart and Katrina Douglas. Thus far in the Millenium, we have hosted visits by international professionals Alison Nicholas, Andy Sullivan and Becky Brewerton.

Sir Ian Morrow, a past member at the club, presented the magnificent trophy to SWGC in memory of his Great Grandfather "Old Tom" Morris on the centenary of Old Tom's death in May 1908.
Morrow's great-great-grandfather was the renowned Tom Morris who won The Open on four occasions:  a fact of which he was very proud.

On hand to present the trophy to the "Centenary" winners, was Lady Morrow, Sir Ians widow.
Club Captains, Tony Brown & Delia Roberts,also presented Lady Morrow with a bouquet of flowers.

To cap the day off, newly appointed Cambridgeshire County B team member Spencer Burlingham, achieved a "Hole in One" on the 18th.


Sir Ian, who died in April 2006, was one of the most successful British businessmen of the last 30 years of the 20th century. Yet he was rarely in the limelight during a business career which lasted over 60 years, from 1936, when he qualified as an accountant, until 1998, when he retired from his last public company directorship - of Psion, the electronics group - at the age of 85. But, as he always insisted, "age shouldn't be considered an absolute barrier, any more than youth should be considered an absolute virtue".

The only time Morrow hit the headlines was as deputy chairman of Rolls-Royce when Britain's most prestigious engineering firm appointed receivers in early 1971 after the costs of its revolutionary new aero-engine, the RB211, had spiralled out of control. The crisis was so grave that the newly installed prime minister Edward Heath, who had resolved not to save any industrial "lame ducks", was forced to nationalise the firm.


Morrow was promptly appointed managing director and, as he told me at the time, knew perfectly well what was wrong. "Engineers invariably tell the board not the real figure for a new product," he said, "but the biggest sum they think the board will accept." In that spirit he soon got the costs under control, ensuring that the engine was not over-engineered - British engineers, he always said, were prone to making the products "too good for the job".

In the 19th century Hughenden Manor was the country house of the Prime Minister, Benjamin Disraeli, 1st Earl of Beaconsfield. Today, it is owned by the National Trust and fully open to the public.

A house with two tales, Hughenden Manor has a rich history. On the one hand it was the country home to Benjamin Disraeli, Queen Victoria's favourite Prime Minister. On the other, it was the base for a secret map-making operation during the Second World War, so secret it only came to light 60 years later after a chance encounter one of the house volunteers had with a visitor. She overheard a man telling his grandson he’d been stationed here during the Second World War. This led to a decade-long unravelling of the story.

Codenamed ‘Hillside’, Hughenden played such a critical role supporting the pilots of nearby Bomber Command that it was on Hitler’s list of top targets.

The former Disraelian Ice House was taken over in the war by the Air Ministry. The men that worked there became famous for their pranks,and were known as "The Ice House Boys"

Part of the Club’s Centenary Year celebrations, the night featured the fabulous ‘One and Only Rat Pack Show’ who performed tributes to Ol' Blue Eyes, Dino and Sammy Davis Junior.

The professional and highly polished act featured three exceptional artists who transported the Clubhouse back to the heady days of the swinging mid sixties at Sands Hotel, Las Vegas. It was a full house members-wise with everyone enjoying a two-course dinner before the entertainment. 

Commissioned by the Club to produce a library of images for use on their Centenary promotional material, we got some great shots and also had a lot of fun in the process!

The company instructed us to take a diverse range of wide angle and close-up photos during the course of the location shoot, to show the design, context and quality of finish of their refurbishment, which covered male and female toilet blocks in the popular up-market camping, glamping and caravan park.

The images will be used in case studies and promotional material to illustrate Focus’ offering to prospective clients.

Our assignment was carried out at the company head office in St Neots Cambridgeshire, where a purpose built garage facility has been constructed to allow customers to be instructed on the use of Pico’s many products.

The brief for the photography shoot was to show how the products would be set up and used in a working environment, and on a variety of vehicles, including hybrid. The finished images were to be used on the company’s website and advertising media.
